Incident Response

Does your organization have a Zero Harm policy or goal?

Is it aware of the increased fatality risks associated with such a policy or goal?

What might you do about that?

WHS incident response is the process of managing and responding to workplace incidents, such as accidents, injuries, or near misses, in order to ensure the safety of workers and minimize the impact on the workplace.
Think of it as a plan for what to do in case of an incident or emergency in the workplace. This involves having policies and procedures in place to respond quickly and effectively to incidents, as well as providing training to workers on what to do in case of an incident.
WHS incident response typically involves the following steps:
  1. Reporting the incident: Workers should be encouraged to report any incidents or near misses immediately to their supervisor or the designated person responsible for WHS.
  2. Assessing the situation: The supervisor or designated person should assess the situation and determine the level of risk to workers and the workplace.
  3. Controlling the situation: Steps should be taken to control the situation, such as providing first aid to injured workers, securing the area to prevent further injuries, or evacuating the workplace if necessary.
  4. Investigating the incident: The incident should be investigated to determine the cause and identify any measures that can be taken to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
  5. Reviewing and improving: The incident response process should be reviewed regularly to identify any areas for improvement, and to ensure that workers are aware of the policies and procedures in place.

By implementing an effective WHS incident response plan, organizations can ensure that they are prepared to respond quickly and effectively to any incidents or emergencies in the workplace, and that they are providing a safe and healthy workplace for their workers.
